Aquaponics, explained simply
Aquaponics is a growing method that combines fish farming with hydroponics. Fish live in a tank. Their waste breaks down into nutrients. Those nutrients feed the plants. The plants clean the water and send it back to the fish.
It's a closed-loop system. The fish feed the plants. The plants filter the water. Beneficial bacteria tie it all together. Simple, natural, and very efficient.
You can grow leafy greens, herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. Popular fish choices include tilapia, barramundi, and silver perch. The system works at any scale, from a backyard setup to a full commercial operation.
